Graduation Celebration from 2022:

Our Grad Celebration Team is looking forward to hosting the new VHS graduates for an exciting and fun celebration night!
Check-in:

Begins shortly after the graduation ceremony ends at 8pm on June 12th.  If graduates plan to take photos or mingle with family and friends, they should do so quickly and then go directly to the courtyard entrance to the VHS great hall for check-in. Following check-in graduates will be bused to the event from VHS.

What to bring

Warm clothing in layers to allow for different temperatures and activities

Much of the festivities will be outdoors and graduates should be prepared for PNW weather (possibly cold or wet). Suggestions include a jacket, a warm hat, and socks.  If graduates wear a dress or shorts to graduation, they might consider changing after the ceremony into something warmer.  Even if it is a hot day, it will be cool once the sun sets.

If a graduate has medication that will be needed during the night this should be indicated on the registration form and will be given to event lead chaperone at check-in.

All other belongings will be surrendered at check in and kept in individually labeled bags.  These bags will be returned to students at check out. This could include phones and wallets.  Please be prepared to turn these items in or leave them with your family.

What not to bring:

The graduation celebration is intended to be a fun and sober event.  Alcohol, tobacco products, cannabis, and any other drugs or weapons are strictly forbidden.  Any student who attempts to bring these items or is found to have these items will be sent home.

Food and water will be provided at the event. Bathroom facilities will be available throughout the night.

Check-out: 2:00am, Vashon High School

Graduates will be returned to VHS by busses at the end of the event. Parents will need to pick students up at VHS at 2:00am.  If parents would like their graduate signed out to a parent other than themselves this needs to be indicated on registration materials.

Ferry:

Graduates from off-island will be bussed from VHS to the north end ferry dock with their belongings to catch the last ferry to the mainland.  The bus will arrive at the north end dock in time for the 12:15 am boat to Fauntleroy via Southworth. No supervision will be provided on the ferry boats.  Parents should meet their students at the mainland ferry docks. If graduates wish to avoid early morning ferry travel by spending the night with friends after the celebration the name of the adult responsible for pick-up needs to be indicated on the registration form.

Covid Safety:

The planning committee has made every effort to account for safety of participants and chaperones.  The event protocol will conform to current guidance and has been reviewed by island Covid officials. Most of the events will be held outdoors where the CDC has stated that the risk of virus transmission is extremely low.  We know that most seniors are now vaccinated and we encourage any remaining seniors to get vaccinated right away to insure protection at all graduation events.

Behavior Expectations:

Graduates are expected to remain at the site/s of the festivities for the full duration and to be cooperative with chaperones and their peers.  Any graduate who attempts to leave the site/s and return will be sent home. Violent or belligerent behavior will not be tolerated and will also result in dismissal.
